Video Review: What to Put in Your Portfolio by Paola Kassa

In this video, the designer Paola Kassa discusses the process where an artist or designer considers how to curate their portfolios. There are many considerations from which images or media to include (curation) to how you share your work via different categories (differentiation via tags, categories or pages).
Summary and TL;DR
This YouTube transcript from Paola Kassa’s video offers advice on building a graphic design portfolio. The core message emphasizes quality over quantity, advocating for 10 strong projects over a larger number of mediocre ones. Kassa provides specific project suggestions, categorized by design type (branding, layout, illustration), including rebranding existing businesses or creating fictional ones like a restaurant or fitness app. She stresses showcasing dynamic work, using mockups and case studies to illustrate the design process and impact, ultimately encouraging viewers to leverage their unique skills and passions to create a portfolio that reflects their individual strengths.
Paola’s Website
Of course it make sense for us to take a brief look at Paola’s website. First impressions are that it is nicely organized, makes good use of white space and has a great homepage design. I love how her name is in very large letters that overlap with a photo of her. Very stylish.
The website employs some nice designs throughout and has a few CTAs (calls to action) on the homepage, inviting visitors to get in touch or view her video work.
On a more critical level, I could tell immediately that this is a Square space website. I had a hunch it was Squarespace and I confirmed it using What CMS. There is an error with the copyright notice in the footer – it is 2025 but it says “2024.”
